Aikido & Jiu-Jitsu for Kids

Teaching self awareness, self-confidence and self discipline to kids through modern martial art systems based on 800-year old Japanese traditions.

We take a peaceful approach to the ancient Japanese budo traditions. We practice in a formal but non-competitive atmosphere. The dojo (training hall) is a safe and clean environment where cooperation and community are reinforced. Martial arts can be an excellent choice of study among so many alternatives in today's world for children.

Our kids classes

Our kids range in age from 6-13. We focus on physical fitness, self control, patience, self confidence, and just having fun. We do a lot of rolling, moving and educational games. See the schedule for class times and the dues section for fees.

Program Benefits

Here are some of the benefits of our program for kids:

  • Assuring children receive a solid grounding in techniques, terminology and customs
  • Strong foundation in ukemi (rolling and falling safely to protect oneself) which allows for a tremendous understanding of the physical self with movement, balance and coordination
  • Improve self discipline through training regimen, meeting personal goals and participation in dojo activities
  • Build self confidence through increasing mastery of techniques and improved conditioning
  • Self awareness through a physical understanding of movement with intention and heightened awareness of fellow students' movements and needs
  • Earn and command respect through instructors' examples and appropriate behavior expectations
  • Emphasize improved physical fitness and conditioning adapted to the unique needs of each student
  • Assure family and parental participation via our easy to follow approach
  • Encourage participants to set goals and seek self-improvement through a flexible and individually challenging awards system
  • Prepare students for a seamless blending into regular adult training
  • Awareness and understanding of proper etiquette used at the dojo to help bring these new attitudes and connections into their daily life.

To get started

Have your child try a class. It's fun and it's free. Just have him or her wear something like sweat pants or gym clothes to move freely. When you come, we'll ask that you sign a small liability form. The classes are safe, but any physical activity may have some risk of injury. You are welcome to stay to watch the class and meet the other parents. Afterwards, if you'd like to join, you can get a gi (uniform) and sign up. There are no extra sign up fees or contracts. All dues are month-to-month. A gi runs between $30 and $80 depending on the size and make. We have uniforms available at the dojo and you can purchase one through us if you like.

Our teachers and program

Our instructors have many years experience working with children. We've developed a training program that encourages kids to set goals and seek self-improvement through a flexible and individually challenging awards system. The program also encourages family and parental participation.
