general information

Portland Seminars

We're proud to host seminars for the Portland martial arts community and our friends from other dojos worldwide.

Who attends?

All levels of experience are welcome. Over the years attendance in our Portland seminars has grown. They now attract students from around the Portland community as well as a large contingent from other dojos worldwide. This includes friends from France, Hungary, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil and more.

What to expect

Our seminars are built around a thorough examination of fundamental principles. This then evolves over the course of the seminar to bring insight to all our practice from the most basic to the most advanced techniques.

The seminars are conducted in an open and flexible manner to meet each individual's understanding and physical needs. Though the intensity helps participants stretch beyond their regular limits, nobody gets injured. The training schedule maintains a deliberate pace that continuously returns to thoroughly examining fundamentals. This ensures participants are developing and building in a healthy manner.

Intensity for advanced students

For those who wish to participate in the entire seminar experience, you might discover that the training intensity differs from other seminars. For instance, our summer seminar usually includes a week of 8-to-10 hour training sessions split between aikido, jodo, and iaido, and in previous seminars also included fasting, outdoor activities, as well as philisophical readings.
